Thanksgiving is near. The trees have donned their brilliant fall colors. In the next few days, like my kids, they will undress and leave their beautiful mess all over the place.
It’s also crockpot weather and I love it. Chilly. Gusty. Damp. Time for soups and stews and chilis that simmer all day. It’s weather that also makes me hungry for turkey and dressing, sweet potatoes and pumpkin pie. A few of the reasons that Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday of the year.
Here’s a little Thanksgiving gift for you—a list of picture books that remind me of Thanksgiving. Some are available at your local public library, some at Scholastics.com, some at local bookstores or their online divisions. Please jump right in and enjoy the stories with your kids or grandkids. And if you don’t have any kids of your own borrow a few kids from your neighbors, or volunteer to read at your local library or school. These books are sure to put you in the Thanksgiving mood.
What is YOUR favorite Thanksgiving book? Please share the title and a bit about it in the comments here or on my FaceBook page. Remeber what your kindergarten teacher said. “It’s always nice to share.”
