What a great time we had at the Mid-South Christian Writers Conference in

Collierville, TN, last weekend.

I met many terrific people, heard creative and challenging keynotes by Bob Hostettler, and talked myself into laryngitis.

My friend Betty Owens and I (and our amigo) enjoyed a delicious meal at a local

Mexican Restaurant. What fun!

God's Encouraging Words

"With all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love, endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace."

Ephesians 4:2-3 NKJV

I used to think I understood love. I knew the definition. I knew ! Corinthians 13 by heart. I measured other people's love by that standard. I taught Sunday School kids and adults about agape love. But the past three or four years God has been teaching me a whole different dynamic about loving other people the way HE does.

I'm learning that only when His Spirit holds all the keys to my heart, only when HE controls it can I love the way HE loves with lowliness, gentleness, longsuffering and forbearance. Only when I throw myself out of the picture completely can God love other people through me.

Especially people who are different from me. Different lifestyles, different world religions, different ethnic backgrounds, different political camps, different social strata.

I don't like to admit that I am judgmental and self-righteous. But God is showing me that I am. I've asked for His forgiveness and help to change that. My goal now is to have God's love be my default setting--my auto-response--to every person I contact.

I have quite a way to go.
