I've been busy the past few weeks working on two new picture book ideas. One is a patriotic, rhyming picture book that I call Our Flag is Passing By. Patriotism isn't a really popular topic right now with publishers. But I believe God put this idea into my head and heart. Please pray with me that I'll find the right publisher. Taking pride in being an American is a message, I believe, that our children and grandchildren NEED to hear.

The second picture book idea is aimed at a Florida-based publisher. It's about the giant and ancient live oak trees throughout Florida. Facts and photos, I hope. I'm taking a "vacation" to Florida in September. I'll visit my sisters and then hit the road visiting as many notable live oak trees as I can. One of my sisters is joining me for the road trip. She's a veteran camper. Soooooo, I'm going to be camping out with her when we visit various State and National Parks in search of those imposing trees. Uh, I've haven't been camping since I was 16 years old. So, I'm going to need prayer for sleeping on a cot and avoiding mosquitoes and snakes. I'll let you know how it goes if I survive the trip.

Just kidding.

I'm looking forward to it. Yes, it will be hot. And yes, there will be mosquitoes. But I'm excited to get tons of photos and get in touch with nature again.

I also submitted some stories and poems this month to anthologies--Chicken Soup for the Soul and another similar book.

Lastly, my publisher, Little Lamb Books is releasing a family/kids devotion book titles All God's Creatures. I contributed several of the devotions. The illustrations are adorable and the devos are spiritual and sweet. It's available for pre-order now at a Kickstarter campaign.

I'm super excited to scream shout announce that our official pre-order launch for ALL GOD’S CREATURES: 60 DAYS OF DEVOTIONS FOR ANIMAL-LOVING KIDS is LIVE on Kickstarter today! Hey, grandparents, makes a terrific gift for young grandkids.

From God's Word

Psalm 131:2 "...I have calmed and quieted my soul like a weaned child with its mother; my soul is like a weaned child."

Remember when your kids were 3 or 4 years old? Remember how they crawled up into your lap anytime they experienced fear, or worry, or a boo-boo? When life was too much to handle my toddlers/preschoolers always wanted to curl up in my lap and snuggle with their ears on my heart. I've since learned that my heartbeat is the most familiar and comforting sound my children can experience in life. They remember it from the womb.

I'm betting your children were (or are) the same.

I remember crawling into my mama's arms. I experienced a lot of ear aches when I was a child. The most soothing place to be was Mama's lap. I remember that she would iron a towel to make it warm, then toss it over her shoulder so I could lay my aching ear on it. I now know that was really uncomfortableto her shoulder, but it gave me some relief from the pain and some comfort. She sang hymns to comfort me, too.

Psalm 131:2 paints a picture of that for me. When life is just too much, when I'm in pain, when I'm frightened, when I'm exhausted, the best thing I can do is climb onto Jesus' lap. I need to lay my ear close to His heart and let him comfort me.

I'm betting your are the same. Would you share a comforting memory from your childhood with me? I would love to read it. Just click below.

Blessings to you!

Jean
