Picture Book Review LITTLE WHITE RABBIT by Kevin Henkes

A review by Jean Matthew Hall of another children’s picture book by Kevin Henkes

Kevin Henkes’ Little White Rabbit was published in 2011 by Greenwillow Books, AND, it was dedicated to them. That speaks much about this relationship between author and publisher.

Little White Rabbit is the story of—you guessed it—a little white rabbit and his curiosity about the world around him. He wonders what it would be like if he were like a number of things.

What if he were still like a stone, or tall like a tree…

When he returns home from his little adventure he realizes that there is one thing he doesn’t have to wonder about. And he likes it that way.

Here again I can see how advantageous being both children’s author and illustrator is. Had I written this little tale I would have ended the story with just one perfect word.

But Henke didn’t need that word at all. His illustrations show the ending of this picture book perfectly.

I’m sure your little ones will enjoy this story about wonder and curiosity and love as long as they are wrapped up in your arms while reading it.
