About

Before I started pursuing publication I thought that all real writers write books. Now that I'm chasing that elusive thing called publication I realize that books are a small portion of the publishing world. There are many other paying markets for writers. To date my works are published in these venues:

  • Articles based on personal stories for magazines like Mature Living and Sasee.
  • Devotionals for magazines such as Open Windows.
  • Inspirational poems for magazines like Alive, Word Aflame, and Bible Advocate.
  • Stories for anthologies such as Whispering In God's Ear, Embrace of a Father, The Ultimate Gardener, Chicken Soup For The Chocolate Lover's Soul, and Christmas Miracles.
I write dramatic readings based on scriptural accounts and I'm preparing a proposal for a devotional book. I also love to write for children. I am working on a YA novel set in the South at the end of the Great Depression, while I study and practice the art of writing picture books. And I'm producing and submitting non-fiction articles for children's magazines.

Plus, I can't forget about blogging. It is an excellent way to force myself to write something creative every single day and to write tightly. Blog readers don't have time or patience for a lot of fluff.

I volunteer to write and edit a quarterly newsletter for my church's women's ministry. That is teaching me to write to specifications. And it reminds me that any ability I have is a gift from God, and I need to be a generous steward of that gift. I'm also involved with planning a writer's conference called Write2Ignite! It's my way of extending a helping hand to others on the journey to publication.

As you browse my website you'll find examples of my stories, articles, and poems. I hope you enjoy them. They are free to read. But I ask that you not copy them or send them out in emails, etc. If you'd like to share one of my pieces just send the intended recipient my website address, please.

Thanks, again, for dropping in.

Grace and Peace,
Jean

2 Corinthians 5:17
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!
